Virginia Beach Campus Scholarships @ TCC

  • The TCC Scholarship Application and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can be picked up from the campus Financial Aid Office, or fill out a FAFSA online using TCC College Code 003712 at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
  • Information regarding the approximate monetary value of each scholarship can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office after August 1.
  • The priority application deadline for scholarships, unless otherwise noted, is May 1 prior to the award year.
  • To ensure your application for scholarship is complete, please register during Priority Registration.
  • Application may be accepted after April 1st or until all scholarship funds are awarded.
  • A "Thank you" letter must be attached to all completed scholarship applications.

Nicholas Andrasz Social Service Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Nicholas and Helen Andrasz. This scholarship will be awarded annually and is applicable to tuition/fees. It also includes a stipend for academic expenses.

Criteria:

• Resident of Virginia Beach
• Continuing student (two semesters completed)
• GPA of 3.0 or higher (in the case of no other eligible applicants a GPA of 2.75 or higher will be considered)
• Demonstrates financial need
• Has spent considerable amount of non-paid volunteer time helping make his/her community a better place in the following recognized categories:

    Hospital volunteer

    Public safety volunteer

    Mentoring/tutoring

    Elder Care

• Must attend the TCC Educational Foundation Scholarship luncheon held annually in February to meet the donor or make arrangements to meet with the donor on another date prior to the luncheon

Frank Baumann/Virginia Beach Restaurant Association Scholarship

Description:

Established in September 2000 by the Virginia Beach Restaurant Association in memory of Frank Baumann; a Virginia Beach Restaurant Association member.

Criteria:

• Enrolled in the Food Service Management Program or Culinary Arts Program at the Virginia Beach Campus

• Full-time or part-time student

• Must qualify for in-state tuition

• Must be a Virginia Beach resident

• Continuing student with a GPA of 2.0 or higher

New student - recent high school graduates (within two years) with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, or may have earned the GED

• Financial need

• Scholarship will pay for Tuition/Fees for one or more students

Frank Farello Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in 1995 by trustees of the Tidewater branch of the International Food Service Executives Association to honor Frank Farello, DODG, CFE, noted area chef. His contributions to the culinary arts will not be forgotten by his friends, family, colleagues, and students.

Criteria:

• declared dietetics, hospitality, or culinary arts major
• have completed at least two semesters at Tidewater Community College and carried no less than six credit hours per semester
• GPA 3.0 or higher in the declared field and a GPA of 3.0 or higher overall

Michael J. French, Jr. Memorial Engineering Scholarship

Description:

Established in February 2005 by   the TCC Engineering Club in honor of Michael J. French, Jr., an outstanding student that tragically died of leukemia in August 2004.   Mike French was very outgoing and well known among his fellow engineering students.   He served as the TCC Engineering Club President during the 2001-2002 academic year and eagerly led the club in competitions, community service, and fundraising events.   His commitment to the engineering program at TCC serves as an excellent example for future TCC engineering students.   The goal of this scholarship is to give financial assistance to excellent students pursuing careers in engineering through TCC's Engineering program.

Criteria:

• The scholarship is available to full time or part time students.

• The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.   In the case of no other eligible applicants, a GPA of 2.75 or higher will be considered eligible.

• The applicant must list Engineering (831) as his/her major on TCC records.

• The applicant must have completed at least 12 credits at TCC.

• The applicant must have completed MTH 173 and EGR 120 or their equivalents.

• The applicant must be enrolled for at least 6 credits at TCC that apply toward the A.S. degree in Engineering during the semester in which the scholarship is to be used.

Geology Department Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in 2000 to assist declared A.S. Natural Science and Math students at TCC who are planning to major in some aspect of earth science at a four-year institution.

Criteria:

• Must have completed one year at TCC
• Full-time continuing student (attending a minimum 12 credit hours per semester)
• Must have taken at least 8 semester credits in geophysical sciences*
• Plan to enroll in at least one more year at TCC
• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Planning to major in some aspect of earth sciences at a four-year institution

Jeanette Hardage Memorial Scholarship

Description:

Established in the memory of Jeanette Hardage, a dedicated Dietetics instructor on the Virginia Beach Campus, this scholarship is intended to encourage and assist one student each year in pursuing a career in dietetics. This scholarship is applicable to tuition/fees, books, child care, and travel expenses.

Criteria:

• enrolled in the dietetics program
• GPA of 3.0 or higher in dietetics or overall
• part-time student (9 credits minimum)
• continuing student (12 credit hours completed)
• consideration of financial need (after other criteria have  been met)

Dr. Michael F. LaBouve Memorial Scholarship

Description:

Named for Dr. Michael F. LaBouve, former Provost of the Virginia Beach Campus, this scholarship was established on December 10,1997 by his loving wife Mrs. Janelle S. LaBouve. This scholarship is awarded by semester and is applicable to tuition and fees only.

Criteria:

• Financial Need
• Single Female Parent
• Virginia Beach Resident
• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Associate Degree Candidate to Matriculate at the Virginia Beach Campus (Unless courses not available at the Virginia Beach campus)
• Virginia Beach as home campus
• Open to both full and part time students

T. Michael Lainey Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in the winter of 1982 in remembrance of a young man whose lust for life and learning must not be forgotten.

Criteria:

• Virginia Beach as home campus
• Full-time student (attending a minimum 12 credit hours per semester)
• Be a declared Math, Natural Science or Allied Health student
• Have completed at least two semesters at TCC, attending at least half-time (6 credits)
• GPA of 3.0 or higher

Frank W. and Esther C. Myers Endowed Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Randall Brent and Linda Myers Rice in memory of Frank W. and Esther C. Myers. This scholarship will be awarded annually.

Criteria:

• Virginia Beach Health Professions student
• continuing student (one semester completed)
• GPA of 2.5 or higher
• financial need
• recipient will agree to mentor in a College community-based program at least one hour per week during the academic year

• recipient will submit a letter

NCSLI Metrology Scholarship

Description:

Established in December 2003 by National Conference of Standards Laboratories International. This scholarships goal is to attract students into curricula that will prepare them to enter the metrology field in order to alleviate a shortage of trained metrologists. Scholarships are awarded for students who have declared metrology as their major and for students who are taking a selected course in the metrology concentrations.

Criteria:

Student Majoring in Metrology
· Student at the Virginia Beach Campus
· Completed a minimum of 32 credit hours toward the A.A.A. in Industrial or Electronics Technology with a concentration in Mechanical or Electronic Metrology
· GPA of 2.5 or higher
· Student must submit a typed original essay describing his/her reasons for studying metrology and the anticipated benefits of the metrology curriculum. Optional additional topics include past experience in metrology, future and present career plans in metrology, and the importance of measurement expertise in industry. The essay should be not less than one nor more than two 8.5 X 11 inch sheets, double-spaced, using 12 pitch Times New Roman font. The essay is to be submitted to the Dean of Engineering and Industrial Technology at the Virginia Beach Campus after announcement in the Fall semester and prior to beginning the Spring semester of each year.
· Student must send acknowledgement letter to NCSLI through the Development Office at time of award. Original letter should be sent to the Development Office at PO Box 3575, Norfolk, VA 23514-9887. The Development Office will send the letter to NCSLI.

Students Taking Specific Metrology Courses
· Student at the Virginia Beach Campus
· Scholarship funding is awarded in the form of a tuition rebate of $100 to the first ten students registering for one of the announced target courses.
· GPA of 2.5 or higher overall
· Eligible “target” course(s) for the Spring semester will be announced by the Dean of Engineering and Industrial Technology during the Fall semester.
“Target” courses will typically be one of the following:
· IND 109 Force, Mass and Torque Measurement [2 credits]
· IND 145 Introductory Metrology [3 credits]
· IND 159 Precision Dimensional Measurement [3 credits]
· IND 175 Pressure Measurement [2 credits]
· IND 203 Temperature and Humidity Measurement [2 credits]
· IND 204 Opto-Mechanical Measurement of Angles and Surfaces [2 credits]
· IND 205 Flow, Viscosity, and Specific Gravity Measurement [2 credits]
· ETR 193 Introduction to LabView [4 credits]
· Student must send acknowledgement letter to NCSLI through the Development Office at time of award. Original letter should be sent to the Development Office at PO Box 3575, Norfolk, VA 23514-9887. The Development Office will send the letter to NCSLI.

National Instruments/Chris Grachanen Metrology Scholarship

Description:

Established in January 2005 by National Instruments Company.   This scholarships goal is to attract students into curricula that will prepare them to enter the metrology field in order to alleviate a shortage of trained metrologists.

Criteria:

•  Must be or must have been a TCC student in good standing during the year immediately preceding the award.

•  Must be specializing in either mechanical or electronic metrology.

•  Must have a cumulative grade point average at TCC of at least 2.500.

•  Must have completed at least 32 credits toward the AAS degree with a specialization in Mechanical or Electronic Metrology.

• Must submit a typed original essay describing his/her reasons for studying metrology and the anticipated benefits of the metrology curriculum.   Optional additional topics include past experience in metrology, future and present career plans in metrology, and the importance of measurement expertise in industry.   The essay should be not less than one nor more than two 8.5 x 11 inch sheets, double spaced, using 12 pitch Times New Roman or similar font.   The essay is to be submitted to the Dean of Engineering and Industrial Technology at the Virginia Beach Campus after announcement, typically in the Fall semester, and prior to the middle of the following semester.   The scholarship will typically be awarded in February.

• May be required by the scholarship committee to be interviewed for selection from among finalists.   The scholarship committee determines by consensus whether or not to hold interviews.

• Award Amount:   Selected recipients will receive an award of $1,000.00 to either be applied toward future courses taken toward the AAS degree or as reimbursement for courses completed that lead to the metrology specialization.

• The recipient must send an acknowledgment letter to National Instruments and another letter to Mr. Chris Grachanen through the Development Office at the time of award.   Original letters should be sent to Tidewater Community College , PO Box 3575 , Norfolk , VA 23514-9887 . The Development Office will distribute the letters.

Implementation and Criterial of Awarding Grant Monies at TCC, EIT Division

Types of awards:

• Scholarship for students who have declared metrology as their major - $500

• Scholarship for students who are taking a selected course in the metrology concentrations - for details see Par. 3. below.

Scholastic requirements for Metrology majors:

• Must be a student at the Virginia Beach Campus.  

• Minimum GPA of 2.5

CRITERIA

Scholarship award criteria for students who are taking a selected course in the metrology concentrations [all or part of the tuition for the course]

• Must be a student at the Virginia Beach Campus.  

• Scholarship funding is awarded in the form of a tuition rebate of $100 to the first 10 students registering for one of the announced target courses.  

• Minimum overall GPA of 2.5

• Eligible "target" course(s) for the spring semester will be announced by the Dean of Engineering and Industrial Technology during the fall semester.   "Target" courses will typically be one of the following:

Betty L. Shores Memorial Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in the fall of 1988 in remembrance of Betty L. Shores, a distinguished professor of mathematics and an inspiring faculty member for sixteen years at the Virginia Beach Campus of TCC. Her contributions and dedication will not be forgotten by her students, colleagues and friends. This scholarship will pay all tuition/fee costs at the Virginia Beach Campus of TCC for two consecutive semesters and $50 per semester toward books.

Criteria:

• a declared Mathematics, Engineering, Natural Science, or Health Science student
• completed at least two semesters at TCC, not less than six credit hours per semester
• GPA of 3.0 or better in declared field, and 3.0 overall
• Applications will be accepted between mid April and mid May prior to award year
• finalist may be interviewed

• scholarship recipient will be announced by July 15

Tidewater Branch IFSEA Scholarship

Description:

The International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA) established this scholarship to support students studying dietetics. This scholarship will be awarded annually and is applicable to tuition and fees.

Criteria:

• enrolled in the Dietetics Program
• preference for a letter of recommendation from the program director indicating special needs
• financial need

Virginia Beach Campus General Scholarship

Description:

The Virginia Beach Campus General Scholarship was established through donations to the Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation.  Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books.

Criteria:

• Enrolled in a degree or certificate program

Continuing student (minimum of 6 completed credits)
• Cumulative GPA 2.5

• Scholarship is for tuition, fees, and/or books

Funds to be equally awarded in two semesters

Must be currently enrolled at TCC

Amount of scholarship award per student not to exceed tuition, fees, and/or books

Scholarship to be awarded fall, spring or summer semesers

Letter of recommendation is required with application from one of the following:

  TCC faculty member, faculty from another institution, or employer.

Jeff White Scholarship

Description:

Named for Jeff White, professor of Sociology and Philosophy at the Virginia Beach Campus, this scholarship represents the contributions of faculty, administrators, staff and students. This scholarship is applicable to tuition/fees and books only, and is awarded annually.

Criteria:

• full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester)
• continuing student (completed 24 credit hours)
• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• enrolled in either AS in Social Sciences or AA in Liberal Arts degree program
• demonstration of financial need
