CLEP Testing
2007-2008
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
General Information
Tidewater Community
College 's Test Center Code: 5226
The College-Level Examination
Program (CLEP) is designed to assist students to receive credit
for the knowledge and skills gained both inside and outside the
classroom. The tests are offered in 34 subject areas covering the
first two years of college. Each exam is 90 minutes long, and, except,
for English Composition with Essay, is made up primarily of multiple
choice questions.
All of the 34 examinations
have been converted to computer-based testing (CBT). An instant
score report is provided after the completion of each test with
the exception of the English Composition Essay. Essays written for
the English Composition examination are graded by College English
professors, who are selected by the College Board from the faculty
of two- and four-year institutions nationwide. Scoring of the essay
takes a month.
Optional essays for the CLEP Composition
and Literature examinations are evaluated and graded by the colleges
that require them. These essays are sent with a copy of your score
report (which includes only the results of your multiple-choice
test) to the institution you designate on your answer sheet.
- CLEP Examinations are administered by appointment only in the
Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Norfolk Campus Testing Centers. Call the testing
center at the campus to schedule your appointment: Chesapeake Campus Testing Center (757) 822-5131

- The College Board testing fee for each CLEP examination is $65.00.
The preferred method of payment is by credit card (MasterCard

on the day of the test.

before you can take any of these tests. Payment must be made at

for this fee. Checks or money orders must be made payable to Tidewater
Community College . There is a $25.00 surcharge for all returned
checks.

CLEP examinations, find out which exams your college recognizes
as well as its requirements for earning CLEP credits. Make certain
that you know the test center code of the receiving institution.
