CAREER ACTION PLAN   To complete the career development process, proceed through the following steps:

STEP I:  SELF ASSESSMENT 

  1. Complete a Self Assessment to determine what careers you are best suited for.  Select 4-5 careers to research.

  1. Clarify your career values and use this checklist during your career research to select careers that most closely match the items you feel are important to have in your vocational life.

STEP II:  CAREER EXPLORATION

  1. Explore and gather information about the suggested careers and compare the information on your Career Values checklist.  Select the careers that most closely match your career values.

If yes, proceed to education required.

If no, research alternate careers.

If yes, meet with a counselor to develop a degree plan.

  1. Meet with a Counselor to select a degree plan. Discuss transfer planning where appropriate.
  2. Develop an Academic Plan with a Counselor and meet with them each semester.

STEP THREE:  EMPLOYMENT PREPARATION

  1. Join relevant student organizations

 

ORGANIZATION / ACTIVITY
Is this organization/activity relevant to your career plans or of interest to you? If yes, get involved.
   
   
   

 

  1. Develop self marketing materials such as cover letters and resumes.
  2. Develop Interview Skills.
  3. Learn how to Dress for Success.
  4. Begin networking  to establish contacts and develop relationships in your chosen field.
  5. Gain experience through internships, co-op education, volunteer and paid opportunities.

STEP IV:  JOB SEARCHING

  1. Begin the job search process.
