Career Information @ TCC ~ Resumes
POINTERS FOR ADDING POLISH
VISUAL EFFECT
- Use larger-than-average
margins creating extra white space.
- Use underlining and bullets
statements sparingly.
- Use full capitalization
for headings and company names only.
WRITING STYLE
- Write in third person.
Do not use "I".
- Use strong action verbs (e.g., developed, evaluated, implemented).
- Write your resume in
commonly used language. Use technical terms only if they are required to explain
your work.
- Eliminate most abbreviations
except those that are well known.
PAPER AND PRINTING
- Type or print it on 8"
by 11" plain white bond paper in block form. Avoid erasable bond-it smudges.
Use 1 inch margins on both sides and 1/2 to 1 inch margins on the top and
bottom of the page. Double space between each section of the resume. Catchy
colors or odd sizes are unprofessional.
- Have your copies printed
on a high-quality photocopy machine, or with a letter quality printer.
MISCELLANEOUS
- Use a format that puts
your strongest, "most sellable" points first.
- Be completely honest.
False statements are grounds for dismissal.
- References are not to
be included in the resume
- Never include a picture.
- Do not put your resume
in a binder.
