What is a Homeland Security Technical Studies Degree?

It is a two-year Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Technical Studies designed to meet the rapidly changing workforce training needs of business, industry, government and military employees. The Homeland Security Technical Studies Degree focuses on meeting the education and training needs of current employees and general work-based skills for new employees in the exciting field of Homeland Security. The AAS curriculum includes four components: (1) general education, (2) technical core, (3)

occupational-technical content area, and (4) work-based learning, in two tracks: Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

 

The Two Tracks

 

Homeland Security Track [Click to view curriculum]:

 

Homeland Security track occupational-technical content area and work-based learning focuses on law enforcement, communication, resource management and mitigation, and terrorism response planning to prevent and respond to potential terrorist acts.

 

Emergency Management Track [Click to view curriculum]:

 

Emergency Management track occupational-technical content area and work-based

learning focuses on law enforcement, communication, emergency service supervision, hazardous waste operations and response, public sector and disaster emergency management, and disaster response and recovery to mitigate natural disasters, terrorist acts and other major emergencies.

 

Who is it for?

 

This degree is designed for all active duty Navy Master at Arms and other personnel

that provide ship, base and force security and protection. Also welcome are military police, special forces and coastal/port security organizations and personnel, along with anyone else who wants to expand their knowledge in these high-demand areas.

 

Why should I get this degree?

 

Graduates can seek jobs with government agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Border Patrol and local law enforcement as well as private security firms and other businesses that support homeland security and law enforcement.
