Tidewater Community College offers accelerated Associate of Applied Science degrees in Management: Logistics and Hospitality Management with Specializations in Food Service Management and Culinary Arts and Electronics Engineering Technology at Naval Station Norfolk. The program offers students in enlisted ratings an opportunity to use their military training and experience, college and transfer credit, and testing programs (CLEP and DSST) to fulfill their degree requirements. In addition, the core subjects for our Administration of Justice program are offered on base. We also offer each eight week session a variety of general education courses to fulfill lower level distribution credits for both TCC transfer degrees and those typically required by most other institutions. Contact your base representative for more information.

Base Passes: NEW SECURITY MEASURES AND BASE ACCESS PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS TAKING CLASS(ES) AT NAVAL STATION NORFOLK

TCC students who do not possess a valid Department of Defense Identification Card and vehicle decal must obtain a student badge and vehicle access pass from the Naval Station Pass and Identification Office on the first day of class. Students are not automatically put on the Base Pass Roster. Students must call the TCC Base Representative at 822-1681 at least 48 hours in advance of going to the Pass and Identification Office to be placed on the roster. If you are not a United States citizen, you cannot obtain a base pass and you will not be allowed on the base. Students will be issued a picture identification badge and vehicle access pass by the Pass and Identification Office that identifies the student as a Tidewater Community College student. Passes will no longer be issued in advance. Base passes can not be issued to a third party as only the eligible student is authorized to obtain and receive a base pass, as students are not allowed to sponsor or bring guests on military installations. Students requiring a third party to transport them to classes on the base should enroll at one of the required classes at one of the four conveniently located TCC campuses--Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, or Virginia Beach. Policy and procedures follow:

  • The student badge will indicate the days and location of the Tidewater Community College class(es) that the student is attending on Naval Station Norfolk.

  • The student badge and vehicle access pass will be issued to the students at the Naval Station Pass and Identification Office on the first day after the end of registration (or first day of class) or the add/drop date. The Pass and Identification Office is located across from Naval Station Destroyer/Submarine Pier Gate 5 on Hampton Boulevard and “B” Avenue, in Building CD-9.

  • To receive a student badge and vehicle access pass, the student must present a photo identification card, i.e., driver’s license, or Tidewater Community College Identification Card. Naturalized United States Citizens must bring their citizenship paperwork with them the first time they apply for a base pass at Naval Station Norfolk as a Non-Department of Defense Civilian.

  • The student’s name must be on the school roster (consolidated list) submitted by the Base Representative and approved by the Director, Navy College Office, Naval Station Norfolk, to obtain a student badge and vehicle access pass. Student’s must call the TCC Base Representative at 822-1681 to ensure that they are included on the school roster/consolidated list.

  • To gain access to the base and class, students must present a photo identification card and the student badge to the Gate Sentry at the gate closest to the assigned class location.

  • The route of travel to and from class shall be directly between the gate and class location.

  • Students are not allowed to sponsor or bring guests on the installation, nor are they allowed access to the installation on days that their class is not scheduled, except to use the services provided by the Naval Station Norfolk, Base Representative Office, Building CEP-87, Room 210.

  • Any student found in violation of these procedures will have their student badge and vehicle access pass revoked and a Letter of Exclusion that permanently bars them from the installation issued.

  • Students that are issued a student badge and vehicle access pass, and subsequently drops from a class must return the student badge and vehicle access pass to the Pass and Identification Office or the Base Representative.

  • Students caught using their student badge and/or vehicle access pass for purposes unrelated to attendance at Tidewater Community College and Navy College sponsored classes will be permanently barred from Naval Station Norfolk.

  • The Naval Station Norfolk Pass and Identification Office will process student badges and vehicle access passes Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Students processing at the end of the day should arrive no later than 4:00 p.m. Call 322-2973 to verify customer service hours.
STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO REGISTER EARLY FOR ON-BASE CLASSES.
