This essay guide was prepared by Martha Perkins.
Over the summer of 1999 she looked for resources on the web to use with her
students. When she didn't find what she was looking for, she created it herself.

She developed this online tutorial to help sophomore literature students at
the University of Houston get back into the practice of writing literature essays.
The demographics of her classes rarely include English majors as students. Because
of this, students often need to be reminded of the fundamental concepts of essay
writing. The online review gives students a variety of suggestions, along with
a few quizzes to motivate effective participation. This tutorial is free and
available to any writing center or individual instructor who wishes to use it.
The only thing she asks in return is for users of the tutorial to register (for
free). This registration will not obligate you in any way or put you on a mailing
list. The information from the registration will allow me to keep track of where
the tutorial is being used and perhaps with what success. You are free to either
download a Writing Center version (available after registration), or you may
link the tutorial to your website. Please register your use even if you decide
