In the exhibition, Works From Nature, three artists approached a common theme in distinctly different ways.
In her work, Karen Eide (Carrollton, VA) created richly textured encaustic paintings that focused on her strong connection with the natural world. A variety of animal and plant life wass presented in spare compositions that reflected nature’s frailty, humor, joy and beauty.
Through the creation of tapestries, Susan Iverson (Richmond, VA) explored her memories and dreams. Influenced by the landscape, her attachment to the environment was depicted in her work. Compositions not only contained dense structure and color but also provided a compelling juxtaposition of natural fibers and geometric forms.
Lucy V. Dierks (Norfolk, VA) presented porcelain containers, including vases, bottles and teapots that expressed her delight with nature. Reflecting a harmony of form, surface and purpose, a variety of birds, tree bark, stones and lichen were created with delicate style and detail.
