Visual Arts Center Fact Sheet

 

The Visual Arts Center (VAC) is a Division of Tidewater Community College (TCC).
The VAC is the only facility of its kind in Virginia and is the first regional program for TCC.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS

  • Skills-oriented instruction for visual arts careers and college transfer.
  • The Visual Arts Center offers two Associate Degree programs:
    • The Associate of Applied Arts degree in Studio Arts has
              specializations in Fine Arts, Crafts and Photography.
    • The Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Design includes     specializations in Advertising Design, Graphic Design and Multimedia.
  • Art Appreciation, Art History and studio course for non-majors.
  • Day, evening and weekend classes.

1,121 students served annually.
ARTS PROGRAMMING & EXHIBITONS

Arts Programming throughout the year including six art exhibitions, visiting artists and art historians, guest juror, lectures and demonstrations. (See website Gallery and Archives.)

FACILITY
  • 33,330 square feet, three stories with 14 studios.
  • Three Graphic Design labs including new Multimedia lab with video studio and two sound editing suites.
  • State-of-the-art photography facility including two Macintosh labs and fully equipped lighting studio.
  • Unique rooftop glass blowing studio.
  • Additional studios for visual arts foundations, three-dimensional design, drawing, painting and ceramics.
  • Two art history classrooms.
  • 2 photography classrooms
  • 40,000 piece BB&T Books & Images Library (books, periodicals, slides, videos, CDs and CD ROMs).
  • 2,127 square feet of professional exhibition space (Goodman, La Bouvé, and Hallway Galleries).
  • The VAC houses and manages the Anne S. Iott Permanent Art Collection of Tidewater Community Colleges and the Hisayuki Yamaie Collection of original silkscreen prints.
  • Wheelchair access.
PARKING & SECURITY
  • Decal parking available in 3 lots within 2 blocks of the Visual Arts Center
  • 24 hour security 7 days a week
HOURS OF OPERATION
  • Facility is open for student use from 7 A.M. through midnight daily.
  • Office is open from 8:30 A.M. to 5 P.M., Monday - Friday.
  • Gallery hours: 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. daily; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
