Bridges Learning Center Process @ TCC
|
Refer
|

A TCC faculty member or counselor
can refer students to
the Bridges Learning Center. In addition, any TCC student interested
in improving their skills and abilities may choose to enroll in the Bridges SDV 108 College Survival Skills class. All classes will be taught by a Certified
Bridges Specialist.Students will be assessed in
the following areas:
- Cognitive abilities
- Sensory integration skills
and
- Focusing skills
The assessment measures the
presence of abilities and skills that are necessary for learning.
|
| Assess |
In the Bridges Learning Center,
26 cognitive abilities and 11 perceptual skills including attention,
memory, verbal comprehension, visual sequencing, and auditory sequencing
are assessed.
Each students profile of cognitive abilities indicates areas for
their improvement, while giving students a specific snapshot of their
strengths, challenges, and learning style preferences.
|
| Profile |

A Certified Bridges Specialist will evaluate the test scores, construct
a profile of each students skills and abilities, and determine
what needs to be improved. A specific program of learning development
exercises is then created for each student.
|
Develop |
During any given semester, each student attends the Bridges Learning
Center SDV 108 class at least twice a week. Students are encouraged to visit the lab for additional sessions outside of class as their schedules allow.
Cognitive
abilities are developed with carefully structured exercises that build
one aptitude at a time. Perceptual skills are strengthened through a
series of physical activities that repetitively build the neural bridges
necessary to achieve control of mind over body.
|
Success! |

By assessing the learning abilities that are critical to success and
then strengthening any abilities that are weak, Bridges improves students
academic performance dramatically. Over the course of the semester,
students connect with the learning process, and increase their capacity
to remember and apply information. Students who complete the Bridges
Learning program will be better able to stay focused, make good choices,
build self-confidence, get a job and contribute to society.
