The exhibition, Art of Glass: Generations was held at the Visual Arts Center, TCC at Olde Towne, Portsmouth, Virginia, from May 10 through June 25, 2009. The Opening Reception took place on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. A Gallery Tour by Ed Francis, Assistant Professor of Art/Glass, VAC, preceded the Opening at 6:30 p.m.

One of numerous exhibitions organized for the regional collaboration Art of Glass 2, Generations featured work by eight artists who have dedicated their lives to making art and teaching. Each generation of artist has passed down a complex and uniquely individual way of creating work crafted from glass. The exhibition represented a wide range of techniques and styles — works ranged from small to monumental in scale. Generations gave viewers the opportunity to experience a variety of glass methods while exploring the influences of teachers on students who then become teachers.

Artists included: Ed Francis (Portsmouth, VA); Ryan Gothrup (Richmond, VA); Henry Halem (Kent, Ohio); Ben Johnson (Green Mountain, NC); Jeremy Lepisto (Portland, OR); Harvey Littleton (represented by Maurine Littleton Gallery, Washington, DC); John Miller (Normal, IL); and Holly Williams (Richmond, VA).

Complementary programming included demonstrations by glass artist Ben Johnson on Thursday, June 4 from 10 until 11 a.m. and from 11 a.m. until noon. A Brown Bag Bead Workshop by Beth Netts, Owner, M & M Glass Works, took place on Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
