The exhibition, Recent Work: Jason Lanka and Nicole McCormick Santiago, will be held at the Visual Arts Center, TCC at Olde Towne, Portsmouth, Virginia, from August 30 through October 30, 2008. The Artist's Reception will take place on Friday, September 5 from 5 until 8 p.m. during Olde Towne Portsmouth's First Friday.

Recent Work features collections by two William and Mary faculty, Jason Lanka and Nicole McCormick Santiago. In his large-scale sculptural work, Lanka explores boundaries, space, and the environment. He considers our relationship with the natural world and asks the question, "Am I of the land or in the land?" Work made from wood, steel, sisal, and wire will be displayed with his preliminary drawings created in charcoal, graphite, tar, and chalk.

In her drawings and paintings, Santiago examines the complexities of the human psyche. She accepts that we often hide our true selves from each other through various personas and the roles that we play. Her interest, however, lies outside the public eye where we dissolve barriers and reveal our true selves. In her work, Santiago captures these moments both allegorically and literally.
