Self-Sufficiency

The Academic Center is a community based educational program in downtown Portsmouth providing assistance to people transitioning from welfare to work.

Among the services offered to participants are:

• Fresh Start--a 12 week therapeutic group counseling program designed to enhance self-esteem, communication, and verbal skills
• Crisis Intervention and Stabilization
• Personal Counseling
• Career Counseling
• Career Assessment
• College Application Preparation
• College Financial Aid Preparation
• Academic Support for Participants enrolled at TCC

Referrals for the Fresh Start program come through the

Family Self-Sufficiency Program at PRHA.
