The Women's Center

Network for Empowering Women Students (N.E.W.S.)

The Advocacy Group for the Women’s Center

Mission Statement

N.E.W.S. provides support for the Women's Center (TWC) by contributing to the effectiveness of TWC’s leadership and professional development programs and student success initiatives. N.E.W.S. advocates both on campus and off and assists in promoting a positive image and good relations for the Center with the South Hampton Roads communities it serves

About N.E.W.S

N.E.W.S. includes an Executive Board of TWC academic staff and community women who engage N.E.W.S members in various ways. In addition to campus programs, N.E.W.S supports an annual Women’s Leadership Breakfast that recognizes a community woman for her leadership and presents awards to TCC students for their leadership achievements and academic accomplishments.

Ways to Engage in N.E.W.S.

  • Join a N.E.W.S. committee
  • Network for TWC
  • Fundraise on behalf of TWC
  • Coach a TCC student (2 hours)
  • Mentor a TCC student (one semester: at least one face-to-face meeting per month over three months)
  • Present workshops/speak on topics (tell us your expertise!)
  • Donate money to TWC to directly support leadership development, professional development, and student success initiatives
