EMT Basic Course Infortmation/Clinical Overview
Congratulations! The decision to go to EMT school is an exciting one and we thank you for choosing Tidewater Community College.
Please note the start and end dates of your course. Class begins promptly at 8:00 am, Monday through Friday. The EMT classroom is located at the Virginia Beach campus, Lynnhaven Bldg., room E136. Textbooks will be given out on the first day of class. Directions to the campus, a map of the campus, and the TCC physical form can be found on the TCC website, www.tcc.edu.
The State of Virginia and National Registry requires completion of a clinical shift in addition to the classroom time in order to be eligible to test for certification. This letter outlines your pre-clinical requirements, WHICH ARE DUE ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.
Legal agreements between TCC and the clinical facilities require documentation of your health/immunity/vaccine status as a prerequisite to beginning your clinical rotations. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. Due to the time constraints of an accelerated class, all of your pre-clinical requirements should be met on the first day of class.s Delay in providing this documentation can prevent you from completing the clinical requirement and impact your ability to test for certification.
See TCC/ EMT Physical Form For Pre-Clinical Requirements
- Physical Exam
- Submit completed TCC EMT Physical Form and required immunization record. If you have had a physical with the last two years, you may submit a copy attached to parts IV and V of the TCC physical exam form.
During your Clinical Orientation you will receive a Clinical Handbook, a brief overview of the policies and procedures, and OSHA and HIPAA training. You will also be given an opportunity to clarify anything that isn’t clear. It is a requirement to wear dark pants (not jeans), dark shoes, and a plain, white, collared shirt during your clinical rotation. You may want to bring these items with you if you are from out of the area. TCC photo ID cards are also a required part of your clinical uniform. Students may obtain TCC photo ID cards from the ID Office at the TCC Virginia Beach campus once the class begins and all tuition has been paid.
