Administrative Association:
Administrator of the Year Award

“I don't deserve this award, but I have arthritis and I don't deserve that either.” ~ Jack Benny
"People are definitely a company’s greatest asset. It doesn't make any difference whether the product is cars or cosmetics. A company is only as good as the people it keeps." ~ Mary Kay Ash

Purpose
The Administrator of the Year Award is designed to recognize an administrator who has contributed to advancing the College’s mission and goals. The award will be made to an individual who has demonstrated effective leadership in support of the College’s vision and core values.

Award Criteria
The individual nominated should be a person who significantly contributes to:
* shaping and advancing the college’s mission and goal;
* promoting opportunities for leadership, training and mentoring;
* supporting the efficient and effective operation of the college; and
* fostering clear communication among College administrators, faculty, staff and students.

Nominees
Nominees eligible to receive the Administrative Association Administrator of the Year Award are limited to members of the Association, as described in Section III. Part A. of the Constitution.

Nominators
Only current members of the Administrative Association are eligible to nominate an individual for the Administrator of the Year Award.

Nomination Process
Prior to 2008-09, nomination letters were submitted by individual administrators to the Administrative Association Executive Committee, who then reviewed the materials and selected the recipient of the Administrator of the Year Award. Then beginning in 2008-09, the nomination submission process replaced the paper-and-pencil letters with an online Nomination Form as well as allowed any full- or part-time employee (administrator, faculty, staff) or student to complete the online form to attest to the nominee’s fulfillment of the award criteria.

Beginning in 2010-11, the online Nomination Form was streamlined and the selection process was replaced with a short, two-step voting process. Step 1, using an online Nomination Form, each administrator was asked to select any one colleague as their choice for Administrator of the Year. Step 2, using a modified online Final Vote Form, each administrator was asked to cast a vote from among the top 5 nominees.

Nomination/Voting Deadlines
To ensure sufficient time for the Administrator of the Year recipient to be included in the annual College Awards and Recognition Convocation (each April), the nomination process should be completed by the first Monday in each February. For 2013-14, the nomination process will be between April 1-7, 2014. Casting votes for Administrator of the Year will be between April 9-11, 2014.

Award Recipients
The award recipient is typically announced during the annual College Awards and Recognition Convocation, where he/she is presented a plaque. According to the results from the membership survey administered in July 2008, an overwhelming majority of respondents (84%) supported the strategic allocation of funds to support the professional development efforts of our Administrator of the Year Award recipient. Therefore, in an effort to raise awareness and prestige of this worthwhile award, and in demonstration of our commitment to professional development, in 2008-09 and 2009-10, the Association appropriated up to $500 to Administrator of the Year Award recipients in support of their professional development activities (subject to fund availability and in accordance with State/College funding guidelines). Award recipients are strongly encouraged to share their expertise through participation in the Association's various initiatives.
