| What is Upward Bound? |
Funded by a grant from the
U.S.
Department of Education |
Upward Bound is a grant funded program sponsored through the U. S. Department of Education. It provides fundamental
support to participants in their
preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities
for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately
in higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families
in which neither parent holds a bachelors degree. The goal of Upward
Bound is to increase the rates at which participants enroll in
and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
We service the following Chesapeake Public High Schools:
Deep Creek High School
Grassfield High School
Great Bridge High School
Hickory High School
Indian River High School
Oscar Smith High School
Western Branch High School
Please note that although we service all Chesapeake Public High Schools, we target students from Deep Creek, Indian River, and Oscar Smith High Schools.

Because parents play such a vital role in the educational achievement of their student, the Upward Bound program staff also provides informational workshops once a month for parents/guardians.
The topics are selected by the parents based on their needs and information they believe will help them support their student.
Upward Bound will be conducting "Partnering with Parents" sessions, 12-1pm, on the following dates:
October 15 - College Admission Requirements
December 10 - College Application Process
To Review previous workshops, the power point presentations are available below by clicking on the session number or title:
Session 1 Planning for College
Session 2 Understanding the high school curriculum
Session 3 Study skills for high school students
Research shows that parents are the single most influential factor in the academic success of their student. They need your support and encouragement from the very beginning of their educational career. If you believe they can achieve, they will believe it too!
