| New Parking Arrangements for Norfolk Campus Students
To All Norfolk Students:
As you know, the Monticello Garage has been scheduled for demolition to make room for the new Wachovia Center project. On many occasions, the College met with the City staff to address the issue of future parking for students. In all of our discussions with City staff, our primary concern has been, and remains, the safety and security of students and employees, while continuing our commitment to be supportive of the development of Downtown Norfolk. We had our most recent meeting with City staff two days ago (3/17), and yesterday we received written confirmation of the very best parking arrangement that the City staff say they can do for TCC.
After March 29th, daytime students will park in the newly constructed parking lot referred to as the St. Paul's Lot, located across St. Paul's Boulevard. A special free shuttle will be available to transport students to and from the campus every 10 - 15 minutes. It is planned that the shuttle will travel as direct as possible from the parking lot to the corner of Freemason Street and Granby St. (North corner of the campus), and then to Market St. and Granby St. (South corner of campus). The City is waiving the fee for the remainder of the Spring 2008 semester and for the Summer 2008 session, and students will be able to park there free of charge. Students who have purchased parking passes will receive a pro-rated refund for any unused passes they may have purchased.
Evening students (taking classes after 4:30 p.m.) will park in the York Street Garage located at the corner of Boush Street and York Street. They will continue using the current parking passes to park in that garage. If you need assistance locating the York Street Garage, please ask anyone in the Student Services area. Please ask anyone in the Student Services area, or call the Norfolk Campus’ switchboard at 822-1110 and we will be glad to give you directions to the garage.
We are here to assure that this transition is accomplished as flawlessly as possible. The representatives from the City and I will be working on logistics and addressing any issues as soon as they come up. I will be personally monitoring the frequency of the shuttle buses, the flow of traffic throughout the parking lot, and other aspects of this transition.
Please call me at 822-1180, e-mail akajstura@tcc.edu , or stop by my office on the sixth floor of Martin Building anytime with any questions or issues you may have regarding this new parking agreement. To help you with this transition is the highest priority for me and my staff at Norfolk campus.
