Frequently Asked Questions:
Did you know that most of your financial aid questions can be answered on-line?
For your convenience, most of the answers to frequently asked financial aid questions can be found on the TCC Website. Procedures, policies, deadlines and contact information is located on the financial aid link
http://www.tcc.edu/students/finaid/index.htm.
What if I don’t have a computer or internet access at home? Computers are available at the Norfolk Campus in the Open Computer Lab, Roper Building with a student ID, Norfolk Campus Library Martin Building, and Kiosk Stations available in the Andrews Building hallways in front of the Enrollment Office.
Where can I find general financial aid information?
http://www.tcc.edu/students/finaid/index.htm.
Am I eligible to apply? Yes. http://www.tcc.edu/students/finaid/EligAppProcess.htm#sop
How do I apply? Both the student and one parent must apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) which will serve as an electronic signature. The PIN will be forwarded to any personal e-mail account, i.e. Yahoo, AOL, etc. Your assigned Virginia Community College System (VCCS) e-mail address is activated after you register and may be used as well. The PIN is e-mailed within three to five days or mailed within fifteen days. http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp
Use the PIN(s) to complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA must be completed every year by the fall TCC Priority Deadline of April 1st for the upcoming academic year, i.e., April 1, 2008 for August (Fall) 2008. (We do accept FAFSA’ s after this date if necessary). Computers are available on campus to use in the FAFASA application process. Please bring your (and parent if applicable) 2007 tax information and PIN numbers. Norfolk Campus staff members are available to assist you.
How can I find my VCCS e-mail? What is SIS? The Student Information System (SIS) allows you to access your personal student information, access real-time schedule information, enroll and drop classes, pay for classes using a Visa or MasterCard, obtain your final grades, request transcripts, review advising transcripts to see what courses are needed to complete degree programs, check financial aid awards and more, all online. http://www.tcc.edu/students/sis/faq/signon.htm
If you need assistance, you may call the TCC Information Center at 822-1122 for general information. You will be referred to a campus for specific financial aid information.
I only want to apply for a student loan. How do I apply? Every student must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine grant or loan eligibility. Therefore, students must follow the same steps listed above for the PIN and FAFSA.

Does the college have a payment plan? Please pick up information on the FACTS Program at any campus or visit this link.
http://www.tcc.edu/students/admissions/tuition/Methods_of_Payment.htm
My award is on the Student Information System (SIS) but it is not enough to pay for my full tuition and fees. How do I pay the difference? You may pay the difference by credit card or in person at any campus Business Office prior to the semester tuition due date. Otherwise all or some of your classes may be randomly backed out (dropped). The Spring 2009 tuition due date is January 3, 2009.
http://www.tcc.edu/students/admissions/tuition/Methods_of_Payment.htm
If your “Anticipated Aid”, on the Student Information System (SIS), is more than your total tuition and fees, your classes will be held until your financial aid is credited to your account. Funds will be deducted to pay all tuition and fees prior to a refund (balance due) being issued to you the student at your “mailing address” on SIS. It is important that your mailing address be updated in SIS before your refund is processed. Updates on your financial aid info rmation are not automatically updated in the college’s SIS. You can update your “mailing” address and “main” phone number on SIS at:
http://www.tcc.edu/students/sis/faq/PersonalInfo.htm
I want to borrow a loan as I did last year. What forms do I need?
All students must complete: (1) Entrance/Exit Interview, (2) Master Promissory Note, and a (3) Stafford Student Loan Request Form (LRF) and list your lender (bank): (Note: Current Academic Year refers to Fall (August) 2008 and Spring (January) 2009.
http://www.tcc.edu/students/finaid/documents/FAD-4016STAFFORD.pdf
After completing your FAFSA, you will receive a financial aid loan offer in the mail or see it on SIS under Student Center/View My Financial Aid. TCC is now participating in an on-line loan process with four lenders. If you wish to choose one of the four lenders then you may apply for your loan completely on-line. The application process takes approximately seven working days. However, you will need to allow another ten to fifteen working days for your refund to be sent to your “mailing address” . Click on “Complete the Application Process Now” at: http://www.tcc.edu/students/finaid/followingyear/loans.htm
Returning students who used a different lender last year have the option of selecting one of the four lenders and completing the process on-line.
All students have the option of selecting or continuing with a lender not listed in the automated process. However, the process is a manual paper process and will take approximately four to six weeks to complete.
You will need to complete all three documents as outlined above and submit them to any campus financial aid office. Forms are available from any campus financial aid office.
When will I get my refund? Aid is disbursed several times during the semester. If you do not see your award posted to your customer account, keep checking If there is a credit balance on your account, a refund check will be issued. You may call the FA Hotline at 822-1355 to check the status on what types of refund checks have been issued. Please note that refund checks are issued to the most current MAILING address posted in SIS.

http://www.tcc.edu/students/finaid/OtherAid.htm
April 1, 2008 is the deadline for the majority of TCC’s Scholarships. You may check with your campus financial aid office to determine if any scholarships are still available.
Can my financial aid be used to pay for books? Financial aid types, i.e., grants, scholarships and loans, etc. may be used to purchase “basic supplies”, i.e., textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, etc. Students should purchase books for the campus where the course is being offered. Allow 24-48 hours after your award is entered on the SIS in order for the campus bookstore to view the award. Students can check any funds remaining by comparing their total tuition and fees against their “Anticipated Aid” on SIS.
Students may purchase books on-line and have the option of shipping them to a campus for pick-up or to their mailing address. Shipping charges may be deducted from available financial aid funds. The main Barnes & Noble Bookstore is located in MacArthur Mall, downtown Norfolk. Students may pick up textbooks during weekend hours as well. Please check the website or contact your campus financial aid office for updates).
