Frank Dunn is Executive Vice President, serving as the chief assistant to the President, overseeing the college’s daily operations and acting as Chief Executive Officer in the President’s absence. Several key operational and administrative areas – human resources, facilities, safety & security, emergency preparedness and threat assessment – report to him. He also has executive responsibility for TCC’s Center for Military & Veterans Education and for the Roper Performing Arts Center.
Previously, Dunn served eight years as TCC’s Vice President for Administration after three years as Executive Assistant to the President & Chief of Staff.
Before TCC, Dunn worked at Old Dominion University in a variety of capacities, including executive assistant to the Vice President for Distance Learning, research associate in the Office of University Planning and Institutional Research and graduate assistant in the Darden College of Education.
Dunn served nearly 25 years as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy, retiring at the grade of Captain. His sea assignments included command of the submarine USS BARBEL, home ported in Sasebo, Japan, and command of the destroyer tender USS SIERRA in Charleston, South Carolina. Ashore, his assignments in the Pentagon and overseas were primarily in the fields of intelligence, strategic operations and plans and weapons systems engineering.
Dunn earned a master’s degree in international relations from Salve Regina University and a master’s in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He holds a bachelor’s in political science from the University of Kansas. Dunn completed doctoral studies through the candidacy examination in Higher Education Administration at Old Dominion University.
Dunn and his wife, Myra, a native of the Republic of Korea, make their home in Virginia Beach.
