Intercultural Learning. Embracing diversity. Promoting inclusion.
With the goal of integrating cultural and social activities more deeply with student learning, Tidewater Community College established the Office for Intercultural Learning. This office pioneers ways to support college-wide themed academic programs that address the larger academic initiative of developing social and cultural understanding in our students.
TCC believes that every student should be exposed to diverse and inclusive ways of thinking. Even if you never leave your home town, you will be living and competing in the global marketplace.
Intercultural Learning also oversees the TCC Women’s Center and International Student Services.
The Intercultural Learning Center invites speakers and creates student-focused programs for these annual celebrations.
- February: Black History Month
- March: Women’s History Month
- April:TCC Literary Festival
- September-October: Hispanic Heritage Month
- November: International Education Week
Each year, TCC honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a distinguished service award to a TCC faculty or staff member, and provides a scholarship to a TCC student.
The Office of Intercultural Learning will cultivate and sustain a learning environment that provides TCC students, faculty, and staff with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be aware, understand, and appreciate the interconnectedness of the social and cultural dimensions within and across local, regional, state, national, and global communities.
