As an event planner, you’ll organize, manage and execute all the logistics behind meetings, conventions, trade shows, weddings, and any kind of special gathering.  You will be qualified to work as a professional event planner in a range of settings, from hotels to corporations to government agencies and nonprofits.

Event planning is a growing field within the hospitality and tourism industries, with growth upwards of 10 percent nationally and 15 percent in Virginia between 2014 and 2024.

Course work for the event planning career studies certificate, which begins in the fall of 2018, will focus on:

  • the responsibilities associated with planning and organizing an event, such as catering and working with select venues and vendors
  • marketing, meeting planning and catering management
  • the importance of feedback no matter the scale of the event

The 28-credit event planning certificate includes a coordinated internship in hospitality or food services management.

Online and evening classes are available.
