If you’re a compassionate person who enjoys caring for others, consider Tidewater Community College’s Career Studies Certificate in Nurse Aide.
Please note: This program is different from TCC’s Basic Nurse Aide Preparation, which consists of 2 courses and is not eligible for federal financial aid. Learn more about Basic Nurse Aide Preparation
Employment for certified nurse aides (CNAs) is projected to increase 18% between now and 2024 – faster than any occupation, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with an even greater demand in Virginia.
Nurse aides provide basic nursing care to individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves. Duties range from assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) to collecting vital signs and assisting nurses with patient care.
This program will prepare you for full-time employment as a CNA. After successfully completing just 2 courses – Health Care Technology I & II — you are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Certification exam, which leads to the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) credential.
The CNA credential assures employers you have met state and national requirements, and allows you to work as a nurse aide while pursuing your education.
Apply as many as 17 credits from this program toward TCC’s Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, or 18 credits to the Associate of Science in Science. You can also explore other TCC health professions programs.
