If you’re a compassionate person who enjoys caring for the needs of others, consider Tidewater Community College’s nurse aide courses.

Nurse aides provide basic nursing care to patients who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves. Duties range from assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), vital signs or assisting nurses with care.

Many nurse aides develop fulfilling relationships with their patients. Choose your work setting depending on your personal preference. Some nurse aides work in a patient’s home while others prefer hospitals, nursing homes or hospices.

Complete the course work at TCC in just weeks, not months. Three to five days a week for approximately three weeks, students receive classroom training in state-of-the-art labs offered on the Portsmouth or Virginia Beach campuses. At the same time, they complete a 40-hour internship at a local health care facility.

TCC's courses conform with Virginia State Board of Nursing requirements. Almost all students find employment immediately after achieving certification.

Certify your skills

Earn valuable industry credentials! Course work qualifies students to sit for the Certified Nurse Aide Exam offered by the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
