Imagine yourself employed in the high-demand industries of advanced manufacturing, shipbuilding or ship repair.

Today’s technologically advanced world demands that inside machinists be proficient in reading blueprints and be competent in using precision measurement and machining equipment – highly detailed skills that you can learn with Tidewater Community College’s Career Studies Certificate in Inside Machinist.

You will learn in our state-of-the-art Precision Machining Lab located on the Chesapeake Campus. Inside the lab are computer numerical control mills and lathes, a surface grinder, automated measurement machines and various manual machine tools.

You will be hands-on with actual production equipment for turning and milling that you will use on the job.

Course work includes:

  • machine blueprint reading
  • machine shop practices
  • standards, measurements and calculations


You can complete this career studies certificate taking classes part time in as little as two semesters!

This program is ideal for veterans and active-duty military transitioning to the civilian workforce.
