Hampton Roads’ maritime industry is growing at a rapid pace, and diesel technicians are needed in large numbers to keep the recreational and commercial fleets operating at full capacity.
Focusing on the repair of marine diesel engines and vessels, Tidewater Community College’s Career Studies Certificate in Diesel Marine Technology teaches you the theory of marine diesel operation along with the latest repair and diagnostic procedures available in the industry.
TCC’s marine diesel program is a hands-on program designed to teach you everything from diesel fundamentals to fuel and filtration to marine-specific electrical and hydraulic systems. Not only will you be able to diagnose and rebuild diesel engines, you’ll be well-versed in the construction and function of hulls, drive power principles, propellers, steering systems, instruments and accessories.
Practical experience is essential – instructors spend extensive time working on real diesel machinery with you in the laboratory.
Apply all your credits toward TCC's Associate of Applied Science in Diesel Technology or an Associate of Applied Science in Maritime Technologies.

TCC’s Career Studies Certificate in Diesel Marine Technology consists of 2 semesters of part-time study, with classes held mainly at the Regional Automotive Center in Chesapeake.

Students are responsible for purchasing their own personal protection equipment, including steel-toed work shoes and safety glasses. Students are also required to obtain a TCC diesel technology uniform shirt.
This certificate prepares you for entry or advancement as a marine diesel technician, marine diesel fuel injection technician, marine electrical technician or marine hydraulics technician.
