Here's how to become a TCC student

TCC's International Student Services advisors provide comprehensive admission assistance, immigration advising and support services to all non-citizen applicants and students at TCC.

Are you...

an overseas student

This information is for students applying from outside the U.S. who wish to enroll in one of TCC’s degree or certificate programs.

  1. Apply to TCC using our online application. You can save your application and finish it later.


    You will be assigned a 7-digit Student ID number when you complete the application. Write this number down.

    We recommend printing the application for your records.

    Are you under the age of 18? Print your application and have your parent or guardian sign it. Or, use this form.
     

  2. Download, complete, print and sign the I-20 Application Form.
an F-1 transfer student

This information is for students already in the U.S. studying at another educational institution in F-1 status who would like to transfer to TCC.

  1. Apply to TCC using our online application. You can save your application and finish it later.
     

    You will be assigned a 7-digit Student ID number when you complete the application. Write this number down.

    We recommend printing the application for your records.

    Are you under the age of 18? Print your application and have your parent or guardian sign it. Or, use this form.
     

  2. Download, complete, print and sign the I-20 Application Form.
a transient student

Information for students currently studying at another educational institution in the U.S. in F-1 status who wish to take some classes at TCC while maintaining status at another school.

  1. Apply to TCC using our online application. You can save your application and finish it later.
     

    You will be assigned a 7-digit Student ID number when you complete the application. Write this number down.

    We recommend printing the application for your records.

  2. Contact International Student Services.
changing your status to F-1

If you are in the United States, currently in another immigration status, and wish to request a change to F-1 status after being admitted to TCC, please contact International Student Services.

a non-immigrant student

If you are in the U.S. on a non-immigrant visa other than B1/B2 or F-1, a dependent of a non-immigrant visa holder, or a DACA recipient, please contact International Student Services for assistance.

TCC is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. F-1 visa students at Tidewater Community College may enroll only in classes required for the course of study listed on the I-20 form that are located at TCC’s 4 campuses (Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach) and the Visual Arts Center.

International students, regardless of their immigration status, are invited to meet with a TCC International Student Service advisor to discuss eligibility for admission to TCC.
