WHO WE ARE

The Student Veterans of America (formerly known as The Military and Veterans Student Association - MAVSA) is a college-wide organization for TCC Students who are active duty, reserve, National Guard, Coast Guard, veteran, ROTC, or their spouse or dependent.

TCC SVA members meet regularly to enhance the TCC college experience by exchanging ideas, engaging in service projects, and advocating for military-related students. Building upon students' past or present military experiences, TCC SVA seeks to further expand students' educational pursuits and enrich the overall student population at TCC.

CLUB HISTORY

TCC SVA was originally founded in 2012 under the name Military and Veterans Student Association (MAVSA), by a small group of students and leadership from the Center for Military and Veterans Education at Tidewater Community College. The organization successfully operated under the MAVSA nomenclature for two years. In early 2014, MAVSA members wanted to keep in line with other SVA chapters across the country and therefore voted to change the name to TCC SVA.

In its short existence, TCC SVA has managed to remain active, with college activities and the surrounding community. Several members of TCC SVA are active with the student government association serving as senators and executive board members. TCC SVA members also belong to community organizations such as Mission Continues, and local VFW chapters.
