TCC welcomes guests to dedication of Norfolk Student Center

In a celebratory event, TCC welcomed community members and regional leaders to dedicate its first student center, recently opened on the Norfolk Campus. Concluding with a ribbon-cutting, the Nov. 30 event took place before a packed audience just outside the center, followed by tours of the cutting-edge facility. [See Video]

As the dedication began, the crowd applauded and students showed their appreciation with cheers and signs. The center features many traditional student union services including child minding, a full-service cafeteria and an Einstein Bros. Cafe. TCC is building a center on each campus to comprehensively serve its more than 46,000 students. All four of TCC’s student centers are expected to be operational by 2013.

Speakers noted the success of the 57,000-square-foot, five-story center, which in a few months has already logged an average of 5,500 users a week. President Deborah M. DiCroce explained that the center came about through a complex process, beginning with students’ repeated requests for a place of their own, to aid their success in college. She praised the critical partnership role of the city, followed by Mayor Paul Fraim’s comments noting TCC’s many contributions to Norfolk’s growth.
