Graduation is an important milestone in your academic journey, and ensuring a smooth process is essential. This guide provides a step-by-step approach to applying for graduation and preparing for the commencement ceremony.

Graduates who completed their requirements for Summer and submitted their application on time can take part in the December commencement ceremony. If you did not apply before the deadline, please contact graduate@tcc.edu to inquire about submitting a late graduation application.

Steps to apply for graduation

1. Meet with your Academic Advisor: Before submitting your graduation application, schedule a meeting with your academic advisor to ensure:

  • You are listed in the correct program plan and catalog year.
  • You have completed or are registered for all remaining coursework required for your plan.
  • You are applying for the appropriate graduation term.
  • Your MyTCC mailing address is verified and updated if necessary.

2. Confirm graduation application details: Ensure all details are correct before submitting the application. This includes verifying your program plan, remaining coursework, graduation term, and mailing address.

3. Submit your graduation application online: You can apply to graduate through the MyTCC portal. There is no graduation application fee. Click here to watch a tutorial video for a detailed guide on how to apply for graduation online.

Post-Application Process

1. Graduation review: Your application will be reviewed by the graduation team to confirm all requirements are met. An email will be sent to your SIS messenger account confirming your graduation status.

2. Commencement information: If you wish to participate in commencement, you must indicate on your graduation application and submit the Commencement RSVP form. Approximately 1 – 2 weeks prior to the commencement ceremony, you will receive a letter containing ceremony-related information. Information about the commencement ceremony and the purchase of caps, gowns, and announcements will be mailed and/or emailed. More information is also available on the commencement ceremony webpage.

important notes for graduating students

Early submission encouraged: Submit your graduation application early during your final semester to ensure timely processing.

Graduation status letter: Early applicants will receive a detailed letter from the graduation team indicating their application status: Approved, Pending, or Incomplete.

Review timeline: Graduation application reviews will begin mid-semester, after all enrollment changes have been finalized.

Reapplying: Graduation applications do not carry over. If you don’t meet requirements in the semester you apply, you must reapply for the semester you expect to qualify.

Diploma delivery: Delivery timelines may vary depending on the volume of graduates and postal service operations. Generally, students can expect their diplomas within 6 – 8 weeks after the end of the term. The diploma mailing schedule is as follows:

  • Fall term graduates: Diplomas are typically mailed in March
  • Spring term graduates: Diplomas are typically mailed in August
  • Summer term graduates: Diplomas are typically mailed in October

Please ensure your mailing address is accurate to receive your diploma promptly.

The college reserves the right to graduate students who have completed all requirements for a certificate, career studies certificate, and/or associate degree but have not applied for graduation.
