Transfer Evaluations

Welcome to our Transfer Evaluation page. Here, you can learn about the process of evaluating your previously earned credits to make the most out of your academic journey. Transfer evaluation is a crucial step for students who have completed coursework at other institutions and wish to continue their education with us.

What is transfer evaluation?

Transfer evaluation is the process of assessing academic credits at other institutions to determine their equivalency to courses offered at our college. This process ensures that your hard-earned credits count toward your degree, helping you progress efficiently through your educational path.

What are the benefits of transfer evaluation?

  • Maximize credits: Ensure that the maximum number of your previously earned credits are applied to your new program
  • Save time: Potentially reduce the time required to complete your degree by avoiding repetition of courses
  • Cost efficiency: Lower your overall tuition costs by transferring applicable credits
  • Smooth transition: Facilitate a smoother transition into your new academic environment

What is the transfer evaluation process?

Note: These instructions are for requesting an evaluation of transfer credits from a domestic (U.S.) university. If you would like to request an evaluation of transfer credits from an international university, please follow this link.

1. Initial consultation: Begin with an initial consultation with our academic advisors. This meeting will help you understand the transfer evaluation process and gather all necessary information.

2. Submit transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions. Make sure all coursework and grades are clearly documented.
Please send your official transcripts to the address below:

Office of the College Registrar
Tidewater Community College
Princess Anne Building A
1700 College Crescent, Suite +115
Virginia Beach, VA 23453

3. Submit a Request Transfer Evaluation form.

4. Unofficial evaluation by academic advisors: Our academic advisors will meticulously review your transcripts unofficially to evaluate which credits can be transferred. They will look for course equivalencies and determine how they fit into your desired program. All official credits will be awarded through the Transfer Evaluation in the Office of the College Registrar. You may view the TCC PATHFINDER, Transfer VA, or Advanced Placement Scores for more information.

5. Official Transfer Credit Report: Once the evaluation is complete, you will receive a Transfer Credit Report. This report will detail which credits have been accepted and how they apply to your degree requirements. You will receive this communication through SIS messenger.

6. Official communication: After receiving your transfer evaluation report, schedule a follow-up meeting with an academic advisor. This communication will be through SIS messenger.

Please submit only one form, as multiple submissions are not necessary. You’ll receive an email confirmation once your form has been received. Please make sure you’ve officially selected a curriculum program. Once all required documentation is submitted and evaluation criteria are met, you can expect to receive your evaluation results within approximately 6 – 8 weeks.

If you would like to contest the evaluation of transfer credits, especially if you believe your credits should apply differently to your academic plan, please complete the Transfer Evaluation Appeal Process.
