Human Resource Representatives from the City of Portsmouth, Dept. of Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services will be on campus to discuss the job opportunities listed below in addition to internship opportunities:

 

Recreation Aide II, Before and After School Program & Internship Opportunities Available

 

In conjunction with Portsmouth Public Schools and under general supervision of Parks & Recreation, works in the Before/After School Program.  Duties include, assist with program planning, implementation and evaluation, preparing program curriculum and activities, documenting and reporting safety concerns, communicating effectively with parents, support staff and program coordinator. Additional duties include providing homework assistance, tutoring and conducting educational component programs.  Education/Experience: Graduation from High School or equivalent; 2-3 years of successful experience in directly supervising homework assistance, tutoring and educational component programs/activities for youth ages 4-12, oversees the daily operations of a before/after school programs in a school setting. Experience in SOL tutoring is preferred.  Special Req.: Applicant must be available to work Monday through Friday from 6:00-9:00 am, 3:00-6:00 pm or both shifts. Part-time, $8.41 hr.

 

Bus Driver

 

Under direct supervision, responsible for transporting youth and senior program participants to and from approved programs, trips/tours and other related exposure outings. Responsible for record keeping; reporting maintenance needs; vehicle cleanliness and reporting program attendance. Responsible for the care and security of all related program equipment and supplies. Education/Experience: Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent; some college education; or graduation from college; and 3 years of successful experience as a driver. Must have a thorough knowledge of the Hampton Roads area; possess strong communication skills with youth through the elder population; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Req.: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Part-time, $8.41 hr.

 

Therapeutic Recreation Specialist & Internship Opportunities Available

 

The City of Portsmouth is seeking a highly qualified and self-motivated individual to plan and implement recreation programming in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services. Work involves general oversight of a recreation center and responsibility for city-wide programming in therapeutic recreation. Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field; 3 to 5 years of experience working in the recreation profession or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Req.: Requires certification in Therapeutic Recreation. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Must possess a valid Driver's License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Full-time. $31,411 yr.
