Why TCC?

TCC is economical, accessible, and offers the greatest diversity of programs and classes in the area. You can take classes at any of the four local campuses—Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth — or various military bases including: Naval Station Norfolk; Naval Air Station Oceana; Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic Dam Neck; Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek; Naval Medical Center Portsmouth or the Integrated Support Command Coast Guard Base Portsmouth.

Tidewater Community College is a member of the Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) program. This is worldwide network of U.S. colleges and universities working with the United States Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard that are dedicated to helping service members and their families get college degrees.

Military students can take courses in their off-duty hours at or near military installations in the United States, overseas, and on Navy ships. These programs guarantee the transfer of courses among participating colleges and universities.

Nontraditional sources of credit, including Navy and Coast Guard rate and rating experiences, Army and Marine Corps military occupational specialties, service school training, CLEP, DANTES, ACT (PEP), College Board Advanced Placement tests, local examination, and other sources based on the recommendation of the American Council of Education are accepted and will reduce the number of college courses needed to earn a degree.

Accreditation statement:

Tidewater Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. TCC offers day, evening, weekend, telecourses and online courses for your convenience. You can choose from the traditional 16-week semester or the accelerated 8-week classes offered on the military installations. Tidewater Community College offers small classes with experienced professors committed to giving you a quality learning experience.

We urge you to drop by the on-base offices of Tidewater Community College at Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Naval Air Station Oceana, Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic Dam Neck, Fort Story, Integrated Support Command Coast Guard Base Portsmouth or at any Enrollment Services office at the TCC campuses for assistance in getting started on your education.

TCC students are encouraged to register early for Tidewater Community College classes offered at the various Military Bases. Military base classes are open to both civilian and active-duty military personnel. On-base classes require a temporary base pass for both the student and their vehicle. Each installation has its own procedure to obtain a temporary base pass.
