TCC Nurse Aide Application

  • Thank you for your interest in nurse aide education at Tidewater Community College. TCC offers two options for those wishing to become nurse aides. Both lead to the nationally recognized Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) credential.

    • Basic Nurse Aide Preparation, which consists of 2 courses: Health Care Technician (HCT) 101 and 102
    • Career Studies Certificate in Nurse Aide, which is for students intending to pursue an associate degree in nursing or science. Students must place into College Composition I (English 111) based on results of the Virginia Placement Test (VPT), high school test scores or transcript, or successful completion of developmental courses at TCC. Learn more about placement testing at www.tcc.edu/placement.

More information about these options is available at www.tcc.edu/CNA.

Note: Basic Nurse Aide Preparation is not eligible for federal financial aid; financial aid approval for the Nurse Aide Career Studies Certificate is pending.

If you want to pursue either program, you must first apply for admission to TCC at www.tcc.edu/apply. You will be assigned a 7-digit student ID number and student email address. Write down this information, as you will need to include it with your application. We will communicate with you only through your official TCC email account.

  • *Basic Nurse Aide Preparation Training (HCT 101 and HCT 102) is not eligible for federal financial aid.
Financial aid approval for the Career Studies Certificate in Nurse Aide, which includes HCT 101 and 102, is pending. Be sure to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Learn more at www.tcc.edu/paying-for-TCC.
