Dan Pallotta to speak at TCC’s Roper Performing Arts Center on Jan. 29

TCC’s Academy for Nonprofit Excellence and Obici Healthcare Foundation are hosting the event, which begins at 4:30 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and networking. A welcome by Cathy Lewis, founding host of WHRV-FM’s “Hearsay,” will follow at 5:30 p.m. Pallotta will speak at 5:45 p.m.   

The Academy for Nonprofit Excellence offers professional development programs focused on the latest trends and best practices for nonprofit organizations.

In his talk at 2013TED, Pallotta challenged the assumption that nonprofits should operate in a vastly different manner than for-profits in a business sense. “The way we think about charity is dead wrong,” he said. “The next time you’re asked about charity, don’t ask about the rate of their overhead. Ask about the scale of their dreams.”

He is president of Advertising for Humanity and founder of the Charity Defense Council. His book, the best-selling title in the history of Tufts University Press, “deserves to become the nonprofit sector’s new manifesto,” according to the Stanford Social Innovation Review.

“Dan puts into words daring thoughts many of us in the nonprofit sector have had for years,” said Lisa Peterson, coordinator of the Academy for Nonprofit Excellence. “He compels funders to look beyond nonprofit overhead and to get passionately curious about and committed to the scope of an organization’s vision and impact.”
