Funeral service program awarded accreditation for seven years

The Funeral Service program at Tidewater Community College has been awarded accreditation for seven years by the Committee on Accreditation of the American Board of Funeral Service Education.

The committee gave special commendation to program director Frank Walton and professor Kim Jones, the faculty and college administration. The TCC program is one of only two accredited funeral service programs in the state.

“Frank and Kim have worked very hard in their program and on the re-accreditation, and I believe that this fact is shown in the final product,” said Joe Fairchild, dean of TCC’s Division of Social Sciences and Public Services.

The American Board of Funeral Service Education is the sole accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation in the field.

TCC’s Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Service prepares students for careers in the field of mortuary science. The diversified curriculum addresses the changing needs and demands of contemporary funeral directing, embalming, and business management.
