GEICO presents TCC with $5,000 sponsorship

Tidewater Community College recently received a $5,000 sponsorship award from GEICO to assist military-related students with academic support and workforce preparedness.

The funds were presented to President Edna Baehre-Kolovani and Bruce Brunson, executive director of the college’s Center for Military and Veterans Education (CMVE) by Joe Thomas, GEICO’s regional vice president. The funds will support programs provided by the CMVE.

The CMVE was established in 2011 to provide military-related students with a one-stop resource for academic advisement, degree and certification planning, student support services, academic and employment readiness assessment, training and support, post-secondary education, and assistance with entry into the workforce that will ultimately lead to economic security.

“Since 1936, GEICO has understood the unique experience and sacrifice made by those who serve, and have served, in our military.  We are proud to present this check to the Center for Military Veterans Education at Tidewater Community College, and support those who have supported us,” Thomas said.

Virginia has the fifth largest population of veterans using GI Bill benefits (42,092), third largest population of active duty service members (129,948), and the seventh largest overall population of veterans in the nation, making CMVE an important resource for military-related students in the community.
