For the second year running, Tidewater Community College welcomed health professionals and health information technology educators to a national conference about using Health IT to build safer systems for better patient care.

Held at the Holiday Inn in Virginia Beach, the conference was sponsored by TCC, Eastern Virginia Medical School and the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology.

Speakers included Dr. David Hunt, chief medical officer, ONC; Dr. Karen Remley, commissioner, Virginia Department of Health; Laura Rosas, chief privacy officer, ONC; Dr. Richard Bikowski, quality officer, Eastern Virginia Medical School; and TCC’s own Gretchen LeFever, regional director and Andrea Arcona, curriculum coordinator with the Health Information Consortium.

Major topics addressed were integrating vital communications strategies for safe and effective care; using electronic health record data to improve outcomes among defined patient groups; and safeguarding your practice by protecting your patients’ health.
