High 5: TCC Alumni Council kicks off fundraiser

The Tidewater Community College Alumni Council is today launching a fall fundraiser, “High 5 a TCC Student.”

“If every TCC alum chipped in $5 – what a cup of coffee can cost these days – we would raise $300,000 for student scholarships,” said Tamara Robinson, manager of Alumni Relations.

The campaign had its soft opening with TCC Alumni Night at the Norfolk Tides’ game Aug. 26 at Harbor Park. “People who stopped by our table said it was easy for them to give just $5,” Robinson said. Nearly $700 was raised.

The campaign goal is $18,000, which would pay for three students to attend TCC full time for an entire academic year – including tuition, fees and books. The donations will go to the TCC Fund, a source of scholarships and other types of aid for students.

“We can make a collective impact with very small gifts,” said Garrett Berger, president of the TCC Alumni Council. “I hope everyone in the TCC community – not only alumni – will join us.”
