Isobel Coleman to give keynote address for International Education Week

Isobel Coleman will present a keynote address in recognition of International Education Week on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Roper Performing Arts Center. Sponsored by the Office for Intercultural Learning, the talk includes a pre-address reception at 5 p.m. and a book signing to follow.

Coleman is a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. An expert on the political economy of the Middle East, educational reform and gender issues, she is the co-author of numerous books, including “Paradise Beneath Her Feet: How Women are Transforming the Middle East” and “Pathways to Freedom.”

Coleman’s work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, USA Today, The Christian Science Monitor and Forbes. Coleman also writes the blog “Democracy in Development” for the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2011, Newsweek magazine hailed her as one of the “150 Women Who Shake the World.”

A Marshall scholar, Coleman holds a bachelor’s in public policy and East Asian studies from Princeton University, and a Master and a Doctor of Philosophy with an emphasis in international relations from Oxford University.
