“Misa’s Fugue” to be presented at the Roper, along with special guest speakers

Tidewater Community College’s Office for Intercultural Learning and the Holocaust Commission, in conjunction with the Virginia Festival of Jewish Film, present “Misa’s Fugue” on Jan. 21 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Roper Performing Arts Center.

“Misa’s Fugue” is the true story of one boy’s journey through Prague, Terezin, Auschwitz, Mauthausen, Melk and Gunskirchen. While exposed to some of the most horrific people, places and events of the Holocaust, Frank “Misa” Grunwald was able to endure the atrocities of genocide through a love for art and music that his childhood in Prague instilled in him. His story of suffering, loss and self-discovery is poignantly told from the perspective of a child who has lived with these tragic memories for more than half of a century.

Following the film, students, faculty and the community can learn more during a special live presentation by Grunwald and Bill Jucksch, Gunskirchen Lager liberator. Guests are welcome to visit with Grunwald and Jucksch during a pre-viewing reception at 11:30 a.m. in the Roper lobby.

“Misa’s Fugue” was written and produced by faculty and students at Fleetwood Area High in Pennsylvania.
