Nationally known fundraising expert to speak at TCC on March 2

Tidewater Community College’s Academy for Nonprofit Excellence will feature fundraising futurist Penelope Burk at its annual forum held at TCC’s Roper Performing Arts Center on March 2.

The forum, “Donor-Centered Leadership: Being Donor-Centered in Challenging Times,” is sponsored by the Academy in partnership with VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads.

With more than 2,000 nonprofits throughout Hampton Roads, the forum is anticipated to draw hundreds of nonprofit professionals, volunteers and philanthropists.

Hampton Roads’ nonprofit sector generates more than $2 billion a year within the local economy. From human services and the arts to education and the environment, local nonprofits benefit the entire breadth of Hampton Roads.

Burk is renowned nationally for her research into modern philanthropy and the ways nonprofits need to adapt to giving trends and donor thinking shaped by contemporary demographics, economics and government policies. Her annual Burk Donor Survey has become a must-have resource for nonprofit leaders around the country.

The Academy for Nonprofit Excellence is a professional development center for local nonprofit staff that is underwritten by the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. The forum is being presented with support from the Obici Healthcare Foundation.

The March 2 event will begin at 4 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and beverages, followed at 5 p.m. by Burk’s presentation. Tickets are $40. The Roper is at 340 Granby St. in Norfolk.

At a reception following the forum from 7 to 8 p.m., Burk will speak to fundraisers from the education sector on how to convert non-giving alumni into giving alumni. Tickets are $20. The reception will be held in TCC’s Norfolk Campus Student Center, 310 Granby St.
