Sen. John Cosgrove to be keynote speaker at TCC graduation on May 14

State Sen. John A. Cosgrove will be the keynote speaker for Tidewater Community College’s 62nd commencement exercises on May 14 at 10 a.m. at Old Dominion University’s Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Nearly 1,900 TCC students are receiving associate degrees and certificates. The event will be streamed live.

Virginia State Senator John A. CosgroveA TCC alumnus, Cosgrove was elected to the Virginia Senate to represent the 14th Senate District, which includes parts of Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Isle of Wight County and Franklin.

He previously served on the Chesapeake City Council and was vice mayor before being elected to the House of Delegates in 2001.

A Navy veteran, Cosgrove has been an advocate for public safety and veterans issues. He serves on five committees in the Senate and is vice chair of two: Transportation and Rehabilitation and Social Services.

Cosgrove received an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology and a Certificate in Electrical Electronics from TCC in 1984. He earned his bachelor’s in engineering from Old Dominion University.

Student speaker Nadine NaserHe and his wife, Sue, have two sons, both graduates of Great Bridge High School.

Another Great Bridge High graduate, student speaker Nadine Naser of Chesapeake, will graduate with an Associate of Science in Engineering.

She plans to transfer in the fall to Old Dominion University to pursue a bachelor’s in engineering.
