TCC advisory committee honored for excellence

Tidewater Community College’s advisory committee Electromechanical Control Technology – Mechatronics is the recipient of an honor presented annually by the Virginia Community College System and the Virginia Department of Education.

The 2012 Creating Excellence CTE Community College Advisory Committee Award recognizes exemplary programs and partnerships that promote excellence in career and technical education. The TCC Electromechanical Control Technology committee, comprised of local business, industrial and higher education leaders, makes recommendations pursuant to the Electromechanical Technology Controls program offered by the college.

“They review curriculum and equipment and recommend changes the program needs to implement to stay current,” said Thomas Stout, associate professor of electromechanical controls. “The time and the effort they have put in has paid off for our program.”

Stout said the advisory committee’s recommendations resulted in the adding of additional certificate programs in marine electrical, renewable energy technologies and fiber and data cabling installation. Curriculum has also been updated, and equipment improved.

The luncheon honoring the winners will be held at noon on June 14 at the DoubleTree Hotel Richmond Airport.
