TCC celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month 2017

Hispanic Heritage Month Keynote Speaker

Local business owner Olga Torres is the keynote speaker for Tidewater Community College’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.

Torres will share her personal story and commemorate the contributions of Hispanic Americans on Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m. in the Virginia Beach Campus Student Center, room K-320.

The event is free and open to the public.

A Virginia Beach resident, the Puerto Rican native is the senior marketing consultant for La Selecta Radio, which includes 103.3 FM and WVXX 1050 AM, Hampton Roads Hispanic music stations. She also provides Spanish interpreting, translation and business consulting services through her firm, Taina Consulting. Torres is co-director of the Miss Virginia Latina and Miss Teen Virginia Latina pageants.

“Shaping the Bright Future of America” is the national theme for Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the spirit and impact of Hispanic Americans in the Hampton Roads community and nationwide. TCC’s Intercultural Learning Center (ILC) echoes that theme with its own message of “Changing America: The Culture of Identities.”

The college will celebrate the rich and diverse cultural traditions of the local Hispanic-American community with activities on all of its four campuses.
