TCC once again noted as a top school for veterans

Tidewater Community College is a Top Veteran-Friendly School for 2015, according to U.S. Veterans Magazine’s annual “Best of the Best” list.

Tidewater Community College serves the largest military-related student population in the state. Active-duty military, reserves, National Guard, veterans and their families make up about one-third of the college’s enrollment.

The college’s Center for Military and Veterans Education (CMVE), a comprehensive clearinghouse offering academic and student support services to all military-related students, opened in 2011. Offices are on each of TCC’s campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach and on the area’s military bases.

“Our only job is to ensure we provide all the resources necessary for military-related students to succeed in college and beyond,” said Bruce Brunson, CMVE executive director. “They served us. Now we want to serve them.”

TCC previously received recognition as “Veteran Friendly” from the American Council on Education and was named a Military Friendly school by Victory Media, Inc., publisher of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse.

Military Advanced Education designated TCC a Top School in its 2015 Guide to Military Friendly Colleges & Universities. The Military Times ranked TCC third nationally among two-year schools in its Best for Vets: College 2015 rankings.

The U.S. Veterans magazine results will be published online and in print in a summer “Medal of Honor” issue. The evaluation also considers top employers, initiatives and government agencies that are best for veterans.
