TCC partners with NSC Technologies for welding training

Tidewater Community College’s Center for Workforce Solutions and NSC Technologies have partnered to provide high quality certification training in welding.

TCC has leased NSC Technologies’ welding testing facility in Portsmouth with plans to offer customized training that meets the needs of employers in Hampton Roads.

“The lease of this facility from NSC Technologies will expand TCC’s ability to deliver relevant and in-demand workforce skills and certifications to an industry that has demonstrated the need for qualified employees,” said Corey McCray, vice president for Workforce Solutions.

In addition, the college will offer open-enrollment courses this fall that teach basic welding skills to those wishing to make a career in the field.

“We commend TCC for investing in quality facilities and curriculum that increase the proficiency of our local workforce. The NSC team is excited to work with local industry leaders and TCC to identify students and offer them meaningful employment upon completion of the program,” said Paul Rodriguez, president and CEO of NSC Technologies.

Students who work toward a credential in welding will be eligible for the Workforce Credential Grant, meaning they would pay the first one-third of the course cost at the time of registration. Upon completion of the course and credential, the remaining two-thirds will be paid by the Workforce Credential Grant. The maximum value of each grant is $3,000 per credential.
