TCC to partner with YWCA to offer on-campus child care

The first center will open for the Spring Semester 2014 in the Portsmouth Campus Student Center.

Centers will open in the Chesapeake and Norfolk Campus student centers beginning Summer Session 2014, and in the Lynnhaven Building on the Virginia Beach Campus beginning Fall Semester 2014.

Each center will provide safe, convenient and consistent child care five days a week. Center hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for children 2 ½ to 5 years of age, with after-school and drop-in care available for children up to 12 years of age.

TCC Child Development Center services are available to any currently enrolled TCC student in need of child care. In addition, students can use financial aid to cover these child care costs. Students can authorize TCC to charge the cost of child care services to their remaining financial aid, after the cost of tuition, fees and any bookstore charges have been deducted. The charge period for Spring Semester is from Dec. 18, 2013 through Jan. 30, 2014.

Registration for the Spring Semester on the Portsmouth Campus will be held on the Portsmouth Campus, Forum Lobby, Building A during the following days and times:

Nov. 9 – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Nov. 16 – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Nov. 23 – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. TCC students receive priority registration for their children. Care will be offered to employees, contracted vendors and the community on a space-available basis. Beginning Monday, Nov. 11, registrations will also be taken Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the YWCA of South Hampton Roads Administrative Offices, 5215 Colley Ave., Norfolk, VA 23508.
