TCC, University of Virginia sign off on new transfer agreements in health sciences

Four new agreements between Tidewater Community College and the University of Virginia offer health professions students a streamlined transfer process to complete a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Health Sciences Management.

Following successful completion of an Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Respiratory Therapy, Radiography or Physical Therapist Assistant, TCC graduates are now able to transfer directly to U.Va. The program is part time and offered almost entirely online.

“These transfer agreements are yet another pathway that provide the kind of flexibility necessary for professionals working in health care to earn a bachelor’s degree that builds on their technical skills earned at TCC,” said Michael Summers, provost of TCC’s Virginia Beach Campus. “A combination of mostly online courses and four courses that involve on-campus experiences in Charlottesville should be an attractive option for TCC graduates and current students.”

The Bachelor of Professional Studies in Health Sciences prepares nationally certified health professionals for leadership roles in health care. It is designed to develop competencies in the key areas of communication, relationship management, professionalism, knowledge of health care, business skills and leadership.

“The University of Virginia is pleased to enter into an articulation agreement with Tidewater Community College in the health sciences,” said Billy Cannaday, dean of the university’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. “At the end of the day, students who have the education, the national certification and the appropriate grade level will benefit from a streamlined process to our online Bachelor of Professional Studies in Health Sciences Management.”

The transfer agreements take effect immediately. Interested students should contact Tom Calogrides, dean of health professions at the Virginia Beach Campus, at 757-822-7330 or at tcalogrides@tcc.edu.
