TCC Virginia Beach Campus to host TEDMED Live

Tidewater Community College will host a webcast of TEDMED Live, an event that brings together a community of innovators and leaders to collaborate toward a better future in health and medicine. The live webcast will be April 16-18 in the Pungo Auditorium on the Virginia Beach Campus.

The webcast is free and open to the public, and members of the medical community are especially welcome.

English professor Dianne Stanbach applied to have TCC host the event, which is free for educational institutions. As of Friday, TCC is one of only two educational institutions in Hampton Roads webcasting the event; the other is Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Annually, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., curates a 3 ½ day program that features short talks and artistic performances celebrating the power of unexpected connections to create new possibilities. More than 1,800 thinkers and doers from leading medical colleges, teaching hospitals, government agencies and nonprofit institutions form the delegation. The wide range of speakers include Francis Collins, director of National Institutes of Health; Mick Cornett, mayor of Oklahoma City; and Jill Sobule, songstress.

Sessions are from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 16; 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on April 17; and 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. on April 18. Refreshments will be provided.

Those who cannot attend will be able to download a TEDMED app to view the conference live from their mobile devices. The TCC affiliate ID to enable download is L67305.
